Yes, their initials are “WTO” but it’s a different group.

From their website:

World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit organization committed to improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. WTO is also one of the few organizations to focus on toilets instead of water, which receives more attention and resources under the common subject of sanitation. Founded in 2001 with 15 members, it now has 137 member organizations in 51 countries working towards eliminating the toilet taboo and delivering sustainable sanitation.

As we strive to conserve water, we need to keep in mind that we also need to use water for sanitation.

Shave your use of water in the shower

<g:plusone href="http://highefficiencytoilets.org/blog/?p=4"></g:plusone>

Sometimes it’s difficult to get folks to realize that water is a precious commodity, so they change their wasteful behaviors. Recently I ran across this posting in a forum, which may prove persuasive to half the population as to why they should turn down the flow during showers:

One of the best features on my new showerhead is its adjustable flow dial. However, while it’s nice that I can decide whether I’d rather rinse under a gentle rainfall or a massaging pulse of water, what I really like is its lowest setting. When you click the dial all the way around, it lets you keep only a trickle of water running. It was touted as letting users save water while shampooing. I’ve found it invaluable while shaving my legs.

The full spray just rinses the shaving gel off my legs, but I don’t want to turn the water completely off because then I can’t rinse my razor between strokes. This “trickle” setting is just what I need. Of course, the fact that I’m not wasting water is a nice bonus, too. It makes me feel like I’m helping the environment and saving a bit of money at the same time. It’s just a great showerhead option all around.
